- She takes inspiration from her travels, culture, art, or even ocean for her designs.

- In an interview with Opoyi, she talks about good and bad things about the fashion industry.
“I have built an extremely unconventional path for myself in fashion. To say the least, I did not follow the usual route,” said designer Bani Pasricha, who is ready to showcase at London Fashion Week on September 19.
“With my beginnings as a biotechnologist, it was more of a challenge to decide my direction in fashion. I’d say my extensive travel experience and participation in international shows rooted my designs into tradition, yet giving them a global, contemporary touch at the same time. Being part of both Indian and overseas ethos from a young age has given me a beautiful exposure to study culture and fashion,” she added.
For her London fashion week collection, Bani takes forward her design NINA and has dedicated it to her late mother for being an inspiration to her in terms of style, persistence, creativity, and power.
With this collection, Bani also puts forward bold colours (organic fabrics) in colours of red, emerald green, sunshine yellow. Also, her main background ideation always runs towards recognising the strength and softness of a woman together and hence encouraging and inspiring that in every client and woman she meets or touches her life.
“I always say women are the true power reservoirs. Take the examples of royal queens from the past, or the multi-tasking fiercely independent women of today, or even a household’s queen bee juggling multiple responsibilities effortlessly. According to me, fashion is primarily an add-on for a woman’s beauty and personality…,” she said.
So is there any favourite celebrity who has impressed her with her individuality?
“I have to name Raveena Tandon. She is a tigress within. We especially did a bold black power suit for her with a hint of gold on the shoulders. It was a powerful creation, more like putting accolades on shoulders to acknowledge the wearer’s strength,” said the designer.
Finally, we asked Bani, the one thing you like and dislike about the industry, she said that she likes the backstage thrill.
“The entire process from inspiration to design takes a designer many sleepless nights, but when it’s executed on the runway, the final showdown lasts literally a heartbeat. This rush and appreciation of my art keep me going,” she said,
“Dislike is more of a change I’d love to see. I would really like Indian audiences to be more receptive to experiment with personal style and relate to the garment while wearing it instead of just following trends. Fashion reflects the personality of the individual wearing it, and is all about what makes you comfortable,” she added.
